GILBERT OR GILBERD
OF NORTH PETHERWIN
The
spelling of the surname of this family varies but generally Gilbert is common
until the mid-eighteenth century and Gilberd is often used after that period.
Some descendants in the nineteenth century and later used the spelling Gillbard.
Earlier
Gilberts of North Petherwin are recorded in the
heraldic visitation of 1620[1]
but no link with the family covered here has been found as yet.
