DAKINS OF LLANBADARN FYNYDD AND LLANGYNLLO

It is possible that the Edward Dakins who was buried at Llanbadarn Fynydd in 1765 was the same person as the Edward Dakins who was granted administration of the estate of his father Edward Dakins of Llanbister in 1709,[1] but there was at least one other Edward Dakins in the area[2] and the connection is not clear.

Records of the Parish of Llanbadarn Fynydd (Powys Family History Society, 2007) shows an entry for the baptisms on 26 Mar 1731 of “George & Elizabeth son & dau of Evan DAKINS & Ann his wife”. The father’s name may be an error for Edward, as the will of Edward Dakins (bur 1765) shows that he had a son named George.

Ann was possibly the Anne Dakins buried at Llanddewi Ystradenni on 15 Apr 1805, but that may have been Ann (Tudge) Dakins, wife of Edward.

[20] The will of James Price or Pryce of Llanddewi Ystradenni, dated 30 Apr 1771, mentions “all the Children of my Daughter Anne Dawkins the now wife of Thomas Dawkins (Except the aforsd Anne Turner) namely Thomas, Edward, John, James, & William, Jane, Jemima and Sarah” (National Library of Wales, BR1779-32).
