PRICE OF LLANDDEWI YSTRADENNI

A bond was made in 1682 for David Price of Llanddewi Ystradenni to marry Ann Hughes, spinster, of the same parish. They would fit well as the parents of the James Price who was buried there in 1779 and had children named David and Ann, but further evidence would be needed to confirm the connection.

There was a link of some kind with Thomas Price of Llanbister who died in 1741 and whose will, naming James Price of Llanddewi Ystradenni as an executor, was witnessed by Thomas Dakins and David Price.[1]

The will of Hugh Price of Llanbister, written in 1705, mentions a son James.[2]

[4] The will of James Price or Pryce of Llanddewi Ystradenni (National Library of Wales, BR1779-32) names his children and grandchildren. His sons James and David were both named as deceased in the will, which was written in 1771.

[5] He may be the Thomas Price who married Margaret Griffiths in 1747/48 at Llanddewi Ystradenni, or the Thomas Price of Llanddewi Ystradenni whose bond to marry Ann Jones, widow, was dated 1749.

[9] His date of death is given on the inventory in National Library of Wales, BR1757-48. David’s will names his children David, Ann and Sarah, supporting his identification as the David who was the son of James Price, the latter’s will naming his grandchildren David, Ann and Sarah, children of his deceased son David.

Ann was possibly the Anne Dakins buried at Llanddewi Ystradenni on 15 Apr 1805, but that may have been her daughter-in-law Ann (Tudge) Dakins, wife of Edward Dakins.
