PALK OF LITTLEHEMPSTON
The family covered here was probably connected to Walter Palk of Staverton, whose will was written in 1574,[1] and Peter Palk of Staverton, whose will was written in 1576.[2] The will of John Palk of Staverton, written in 1617, mentions Peter Palk of Littlehempston.[3]
William, Prince of Wales, is descended from Sir Robert Palk (1717-1798), Baronet.[4] The latter’s family were from Ashburton and Charles Worthy traced Robert’s patrilineal ancestry to his great-grandfather Thomas Palk.[5] The evidence adduced by Worthy, together with entries in the Ashburton and Staverton parish registers, indicates that Thomas was a son of Edward and Dewnes (Lowman) Palk who were married at Staverton in 1617.[6]

[13] William’s burial record and Peter’s marriage record name their father as Arthur Palk in each case. Chronologically, they fit best as children of Arthur and Bridget (Emmett) Palk. William was married in 1669 and Peter’s first wife was baptised in 1648, so it seems implausible that they were young enough to be sons of the younger Arthur Palk (1633-1663).
