[1] Burnsall parish registers (online at www.ancestry.com); will dated 18 Jan 1613[/14], proved 6 Nov 1617 (Borthwick Institute). John’s will requested burial at Rylstone but there is no corresponding entry in that register so he appears to be the John Cockson whose burial on 4 May 1617 is listed in the Burnsall register. Rylstone was a chapelry in the parish of Burnsall.

The nuncupative will of Agnes Westwood of Hetton, made ca 27 Nov 1602 and proved 5 Feb 1602/03 (Borthwick Institute) mentions John Cockson of Cracoe. The will of Thomas Westwood of Cracoe, dated 27 Apr 1624 and proved 22 Jul 1624 (Borthwick Institute) mentions Thomas Cockson.

[18] Rylstone parish registers (online at www.ancestry.com). After the baptisms and marriages for 1623, the register includes a “right reckoning of these Cocsons”, summarising the family of Thomas Cockson, including his baptism and burial dates and a list of his children. Thomas is there stated to have “Marryed with Agnes Costentyne”. Thomas’s will confirms that his wife was called Agnes. The will of Robert Costentyne of Kettlewell, dated 31 Aug 1609 and proved 26 Apr 1610 (Borthwick Institute) mentions “Agnes Cockson my daught[e]r”.

The Rylstone registers show the burial of Helen, daughter of Thomas Cockson, in 1623, but that may be an error for Ann who is stated in the summary of the Cockson family (in the Rylstone register after the marriages for 1623) to have been buried that year. Thomas Cockson’s will, written in 1626/27, mentions a daughter “Ellen” but not a daughter Ann.
