NEWEL OF GREAT HORTON
There
were evidently at least two John Newels having children in the Bradford area in
the 1660s and 1670s. John Newel and Agnes Stones were married there in 1665 and
John Newel and Isabel Scholefield were married there in 1666.

[3] Halifax parish registers (online at www.ancestry.com): “Wm: Nowell & Martha Woodhead de Shelf”. This appears to be the marriage of William Newel of Great Horton as Martha Newel, widow, of Great Horton, was buried at Bradford in 1731. She was probably either the Martha, daughter of Michael Woodhead of Shelf, baptised at Halifax on 28 Apr 1667, or the Martha, daughter of John Woodhead of Shelf, baptised at Halifax on 19 Jul 1668.
