HAIST OF BARWICK
IN ELMET
The
extant parish registers of Barwick in Elmet do not cover the 1640s and Richard and
Elizabeth (Haigh) Haist may have had more than one child. Another likely son is
Philip Haist of Barwick who had a daughter Elizabeth baptised in 1670 and
buried in 1675.
The
registers of nearby Saxton in Elmet record the baptisms of Frances and William,
children of a Richard Hast, in 1650 and 1652. Richard Hast and his wife Frances
were both buried at Saxton in 1657/58. William attended
St John’s College, Cambridge, and became
rector of Mount Bures, Essex.
