BROWN OF LIFTON

It is not clear how many Christopher Browns were in the Lifton area in the seventeenth century. One Christopher Brown was baptised on 26 April 1709 at Lifton as a son of Thomas Brown of Werrington. A Christopher Brown and Mary Crocker were married in 1747 at Werrington. One Christopher Brown was buried at Werrington in the 1750s and another was buried at Lifton on 3 February 1780. There was also a Urania, wife of Christopher Brown, buried in 1777 at Lifton.

However, Elizabeth (Rowe) Brown may be the Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas and Margery Rowe, who was baptised at Buckland Monachorum on 13 Sep 1743, as that family appears to have moved to Lifton.
