BLACKER OF DONCASTER
The will of Raphe Blacker of Doncaster, proved in 1582, mentions “Robt blacker and Walter my brethren”.[1] The names of these brothers suggest the likelihood that the testator was a son of John Blacker of Sandal Magna who died in 1560, leaving a will naming sons Rawffe, Robert and Walter.[2] An account of the ancestry of John Blacker was given by J.W. Walker.[3]

[18] The Doncaster parish registers give the individual buried as “Margarett the wyf of Gregory Cooke”. The forename given for her appears to be an error. There seems to have been some confusion about it as the bishop’s transcripts (online at www.findmypast.co.uk) have a blank space left for her forename and refer only to “the wife of Gregory Cooke”.
