SYMONS OF
TRENEGLOS
The
Treneglos monumental inscriptions include one to
Christian Symons, wife of William Symons, gentleman, buried in 1658, and John
Symons, son of William, who was buried in 1659.[1]
William Simons of Treneglos and Christian, daughter
of John Tredwene of Davidstow,
were married in 1656 at Launceston.[2]
Another inscription there commemorates William Symons who died in 1673 aged 78.[3]
A
Richard Symons of Treneglos married Mary Simons in
1657 at Launceston.[4]
This was perhaps a different Richard from the one who heads the account below.

[6] The wills of Richard Symons name his wife Frances (Kresen Kernow, AP/S/1101, AP/S/1113) and it appears from the will of Joan (Stodden) Heare that the mother of Richard’s children was a sister of Joan (Kresen Kernow, AP/H/1122). The 1634 will of Robert Stodden of Treneglos also mentions “Richard Symon” (Kresen Kernow, AP/S/716). There is a possibility that Richard was married more than once and that his Stodden wife and his widow Frances were different individuals.
