Notes
Burke (1853) reports that number 8 was
son of a James Campbell. However, James son of Donald McCoran and Agnes Haldan
in “Inchie-noch” was baptised at Port of Menteith on 1 Feb 1713 (Port of
Menteith parish registers) and there was a tradition that the prime minister’s
family was descended from the Haldanes of Gleneagles (see G. Harvey Johnston, The Heraldry of the Campbells, 2 vols.
[Edinburgh, 1920-21], 2:46).
