SOPER OF BOVEY TRACEY
Children
of John Soper were baptised at Bovey Tracey between 1628 and 1652 but it is not
clear whether the father was the same person in every case. John Soper and
Agnes Coish were married there on 12 November 1627 and John Soper and Mary Hill
on 20 November 1634. The 1641/42 protestation
return for Bovey Tracey includes two John Sopers. Legal cases of 1642
variously refer to one or more of the John Sopers of Bovey Tracey as a
glover
or as a
husbandman.
A lease of
1626 mentions Thomas Soper, John Soper the younger, and Jonas Soper, sons of
John Soper the elder of Bovey Tracey.

by Oswyn Murray of the wills of John Soper senior (1630) and Mary Soper, spinster
(1678), both of Bovey Tracey, which I have not seen, may be relevant here.
