SLEEMAN OF BOYTON
John Sleeman or his wife Mary may have been a relative of Sidwell Uglow of St Gennys, widow, whose will, dated 1623, makes “Peeter Sleaman the Sonne of John Sleaman (of the p[ar]ishe of Boyton in the Countie of Cornewall)” her executor.[1] Sidwell was buried at Boyton on 1 February 1628/29.[2] Alexander Uglow and Sidwell Milton were married at St Gennys on 7 September 1615.[3] The 1614 administration record of Edward Milton of Week St Mary names his widow Sidwell.[4]
The 1612 will of Peter Sleeman of Tresmeer mentions a son John but that may be the “John Slyman” who married Ann Williams at Lezant in 1604. The testator’s wife was named Alice and the marriage of Peter Sleeman and Alice Luggar took place at Lezant in 1564.
Another John Sleeman was named as a son in the will of Elizabeth Sleeman of North Tamerton in May 1626 but as he was baptised in 1589, he was probably younger than the John Sleeman who later lived at Boyton.
