KINGFORD OF CLAWTON

The will of Hannah (Kingford) Stephens of St Mellion, written in 1787, mentions her sister “Ann Sleming” as well as “Jacob the Son of Jacob & Grace Hill... his Brother Thomas Hill… their Sister Mary Now Mary Geak… Grace the Daughter of Jacob & Grace Hill whome I here by make whole & sole Executrix of this my last will”. Hannah’s relationship to the Hill siblings is not made explicit in the will itself but is confirmed by the record of the oath to be sworn by the executrix Grace Hill which states that the testator Hannah Stephens was her aunt.

The parentage of the Thomas Kingford who married Mary Venton is uncertain but a Thomas Kingford senior was buried at Clawton on 2 September 1698.

Philip Venton and Ann Huddle, widow, were married at Hollacombe on the same day as Thomas and Mary (Venton) Kingford. Philip was perhaps the one of that name baptised on 13 October 1674 at Cookbury, son of John and Grace Venton. A John Venton was buried at Clawton on 11 March 1706/07.

KINGFORD

THOMAS KINGFORD was buried on 29 April 1746 at Clawton, Devon.[1] He married on 27 April 1697 at Hollacombe, MARY VENTON.[2]
