[10] Silkstone parish registers (online at www.ancestry.com). The will of Percival Hobson does not explicitly state that Nicholas was his son but it makes him a residuary legatee and executor. The 1609 will of John Hobson mentions “Joseph Hobson my nephewe” and Joseph, son of Nicholas Hobson, was baptised at Silkstone on 8 Dec 1589.

[21] Silkstone parish registers (online at www.ancestry.com). Percival was living in 1617 when he was mentioned in the will of Elizabeth (Hobson) Thornton. There was more than one Percival Hobson so full details are unclear. The 1577 will of Percival Hobson mentions “P[er]civall Hobsone sone of Will[ia]m Hobsone”. One Percival Hobson was buried at Silkstone on 19 Mar 1623 (Silkstone Parish Registers, Yorkshire Archaeological Society, Yorkshire Parish Register Section transcripts, 17, 2006), and another apparently died in 1632: Joseph Hunter, South Yorkshire, 2 vols (London, 1828-31), 2:226. Possible wives include Elizabeth Rogers, Ann Norfolk and Ann Westby. There are potentially relevant entries in the feet of fines for wives named Elizabeth and Agnes.
