DRINNICK OF SOUTH PETHERWIN

Richard Pearce and Mary Drennick were married at Warbstow in 1701. The only other individuals found in Warbstow with Mary’s surname in the relevant period are Richard Drinnick and Jane Drinnick, both buried in 1705. Coupled with the baptism of Mary, daughter of Richard Drenick and Jane his wife, at South Petherwin in 1670, it seems that the family had come from the latter parish and that the burials relate to Mary’s parents.

There is reason to think that the Pearce and Drinnick families were acquainted some years before 1701, as Richard Drinicke of South Petherwin was one of the men who, in 1697, took the inventory of the estate of Richard Pearce of Altarnun, an uncle of the Richard who married Mary Drinnick.[1]

The earlier ancestry of this family is uncertain and some relevant probate records which existed in the past have unfortunately been lost. One candidate for the father of Richard is a Thomas Drinnicke of South Petherwin, yeoman, whose daughter Elizabeth married John Hodge in 1670.[2]
