BRIDGMAN OF LUXULYAN

The 1672 marriage entry for Nicholas Grose and Mary in the Luxulyan parish registers does not give the bride’s surname. However, the will of Edward Bridgman of Luxulyan, written in 1692, names “my Sister mary the wife of Nicholas Grose” as well as other siblings, which enables Mary to be identified as a daughter of John and Constance Bridgman.

John Bridgman may be the John, son of Thomas Bridgman, baptised on 3 December 1604 at Luxulyan, but there seems to have been more than one contemporary John Bridgman in the area. A Margery, daughter of John and Mary Bridgman, was baptised at Luxulyan on 16 September 1651.[1]

One John Bridgman was buried at Luxulyan on 30 March 1668. John Bridgman, the husband of Constance, was dead by 1675 when he was described as deceased in the marriage entry of his son Walter.

The will of Edward Bridgman was witnessed by a Joseph Bridgman, whose connection is uncertain. Joseph was born about 1640.
