BOULTON OF
ADDINGHAM
Information on this family is
limited as there seem to have been multiple individuals named Thomas Boulton or
Bolton in the area at the time.
Thomas Boulton and Jennet
Brogden were married at Bingley on 4 December 1620 but Jennet wife of Thomas
Boulton was buried at Addingham on 21 June 1622, so she does not seem to be the
mother of the Jennet who was baptised in 1625. Thomas Bolton of Addingham
and Frances Harrison were married
at Otley on 31 July 1627, but that was two years after the baptism of Jennet.
Jennet (Boulton) Gott was
probably closely related to Thomas Boulton who married Ruth Stones at Addingham
on 25 July 1643. Thomas and Ruth later lived at Silsden Moor. Thomas’s will was
proved in 1678.[1] In the
1689 administration record for their son Benjamin Bolton of Cringles in
Silsden, the parties were Timothy Bolton of Cringles, yeoman, William Gott of
Lower Cringles, yeoman, and Thomas Gott of Potterpitts, yeoman.[2]
The 1667 administration bond for the estate of Judith Stones, a sister of Ruth
(Stones) Boulton, includes a John Bollton of Cringles, clothier.[3]
William Gott of Cringles,
husbandman, was also a party in the 1667 administration bond for Dionis
Cockshott of Cringles and was one of the men who took the inventory.[4]
Dionis Cockshott had married Elizabeth Boulton at Addingham on 30 November
1637.
