SYKES OF HOLBECK

There are multiple baptisms which could relate to the Joseph Sykes who married Martha Holmes in 1818, and his parentage is not yet clear. The use of the names Edwin and Emma among the children of Joseph and Martha is suggestive of a connection with John and Sarah (Mitchell) Sykes of Holbeck, married in 1831, whose children also included an Edwin and an Emma. One of the witnesses at the marriage of John and Sarah was a Frederick Sykes, who was probably the Frederick born in 1802, son of James and Elizabeth Sykes of Holbeck.
