of the information on the Hamlyns is taken from Burke’s
Landed Gentry, 18th edition, 3:424-26, but note that the fathers of both
Mary Stranger (wife of Thomas Hamlyn) and Ann Stranger (wife of James Hamlyn)
given there are incorrect. J.L. Vivian, Visitations of the County of Devon
(1895), 481-83, has also been used for the Hamlyns.
