RENTON OF HAREWOOD

There are other Renton and Rainton entries from the seventeenth century in the Harewood parish registers.

The George Renton who heads the account below may be the George, son of George Renton of Cross Green, baptised at St Peter, Leeds, on 4 February 1637/38, although that would make him older than usual at his marriage in 1681. An Isabel, daughter of George Rainton of Lofthouse, was baptised at Harewood in 1642.

However, from other records, this was evidently the marriage of Joseph Lawrence. For example, the baptism entry for Elizabeth Lowrance in the Tadcaster parish registers in 1778 states that her father was “Benjamin Lowrance of Tadcaster Taylor Son of Joseph Lowrance of Wetherby Joiner by Rachel his Wife Daughter of Samuel Renton of Lofthouse near Harewood Farmer”.
